A Smith.ai alternative that does not meter your calls.

If you are shopping Smith.ai you have probably already worked out that the bill moves with the phone. Here is what is genuinely different about VocalizeCloud, what you would give up by switching, and the cases where you should stay exactly where you are.

One structural difference, and it explains the rest.

Smith.ai sells call bundles. You buy a plan sized for a number of calls, and every call past it bills again. VocalizeCloud sells a flat app plus the minutes you actually talk. Their bill moves when your phone rings more; ours moves when your conversations run longer. That single choice is what decides which one is cheaper for you, and it is why a busy month feels different on each.

Assumes 2.5 minutes per answered call at our Standard voice rate. Five volumes, both bills and the crossover point are worked through on the pricing page.

Stay with Smith.ai if any of these is you

  • You are under about 70 calls a month. Their free plan answers 25 at no cost, and counting overage past that they stay cheaper than our flat price plus minutes until roughly 70. Below that line, switching costs you money. Do not switch.
  • You use their human receptionists. They staff real people, from $300 a month for 30 calls. We do not sell that at any price. Our transfers go to your own team under your own policy. If a third party answering your phone is the thing you are buying, we are not an alternative to it.
  • You have committed for the better rate. Their lower per-call rates come with a six-month plan. If you are inside one, the exit math is theirs, not ours, and worth checking before you move.
  • Your call volume is flat and predictable. A bundle priced exactly at your volume is a reasonable deal. Metering only hurts when the month surprises you.

What actually changes if you do switch.

Three things, and none of them are the voice. Both products answer the phone in a natural voice, take what the caller needs and hand off to a person. The differences are around that.

Sources and honesty. Smith.ai figures are their published AI receptionist pricing, read from their site on 2026-07-28: a Free plan at $0 for 25 calls a month, Pro at $150 for 75 calls, $270 for 150 and $500 for 300, and Enterprise at $500 for 300, $800 for 500 and a custom quote above 1,000, with overage from $2.10 to $3.00 a call by tier. Their human-staffed answering is a separate product at $300 a month for 30 calls, $810 for 90 and $2,100 for 300. Two things to know if you check for yourself: their AI prices sit behind a call-volume selector, so the card shows a different headline number until you pick the volume we quote, and their pricing page carries no effective date, so it can move without notice. Hear it answer before you pay anything.

Seven days, thirty minutes of talk time, no card. If it does not answer your phone better than voicemail, walk away and the trial simply ends.
